ARCHIVE NO. 002 — PORTRAIT ROOM
a closer look at a few dogs
The room next door covers breeds in general. These are about specific dogs — the ones who sat still long enough to get a proper portrait and a few notes about who they actually are.
shiba inu · fox face, cat attitude
Mochi wakes up before the sun and considers this everyone else's problem too. Favorite things: the one square of morning light on the kitchen floor, any blanket left unattended, and correcting people who try to pet her without asking first. She has a specific, high-pitched complaint reserved for closed doors, and no patience for repeating herself twice.
spanish greyhound · built for a sprint, lives for a nap
Saeta spends roughly twenty hours a day asleep and treats the other four as optional. She likes thick blankets, the warm spot left behind by anyone who just stood up, and short, sudden sprints across the yard that end as abruptly as they start. Loud noises unsettle her more than most dogs her size; she prefers to watch the world from somewhere soft.
chihuahua · small dog, enormous opinions
Nico weighs about as much as a bag of sugar and has never once acted like it. He barks first at anything twice his size and asks questions later, but folds completely the moment a sweater comes out — he runs cold and isn't shy about demanding a blanket. Favorite spot: directly on top of whoever sat down last.
alaskan malamute · built for snow, talks back
Koda has opinions and shares them in a running commentary of grumbles, groans, and half-howls that isn't quite barking. He waits by the door for the first snowfall of the year like other dogs wait for dinner, and once it arrives he'll flop straight into it, face-first, no hesitation. Twice a year he redecorates the entire house in fur.
irish setter · all legs, all heart, no filter
Canela freezes mid-stride the second a bird moves in the yard, one paw up, tail straight out, like she's still being graded on it. The rest of the time she has none of that composure — she greets every visitor at full speed and forgets, every single time, that she's too big to be a lap dog. Favorite things: open fields, long ears getting scratched, and being told she's a good girl, repeatedly.
